17th Pals’ Lead The St George’s Day Parade in Highams Park

Fresh from their successful performance at Leyton Orient the day before, the 17th Pals’ once again lead the St George’s Day Parade in Highams Park.

On another hot and sunny day, the Band formed up on the Broadway before marching down Selwyn Avenue and round to Highams Park Baptist Church.

Following the service, the band formed up outside the church before marching up Cavendish Road, into Winchester Road and and then the Broadway, before stopping at Signal Walk.

The Band moved into position for a static performance after which Steve Jenkins gave an historical talk on the Band, informing those gathered of the connections with both the 17th Waltham Forest and the 17th Middlesex, paying particular attention to the footballers who served in the Great War. Steve went on to give several talks between a number of marches that were performed, including mentioning that most of the music played by the Band was written around the time of the War.
